What is MINI Takes the States? www.minitakesthestates.com is a good place to start to see what we are all about. A gathering of just a few hundred of the craziest, zaniest, most fun people who happen to own MINI's from around not just the United States but from around the world! These so called MINIacs travel from near and far to start a two week journey across the country visiting fun landmarks, all American cities, quirky roadside attractions while motoring with other MINIs. MINI USA puts this together every other year.
Nomenclature
MINI: (all caps) the newer models of MINI Coopers which were built starting in 2001. These are what most American's think of as a MINI Cooper.
Mini: (notice the small letters) the older models built before 2000. Your typical "clown car" as my husband likes to call all MINI/Minis
Motoring: Driving that MINI/Mini and having fun.
R # : All MINI models have R numbers that correspond to the type of MINI it is. For example, Tycoon is a Countryman and an R60. My Mom's MINI, Coconut, is a Cabrio and an R57.
Boot: What we MINIacs call the trunk
Bonnet: The hood
MINIacs: Someone who loves their MINI and all things MINI/Mini
Save the Wave: Wave to the other MINI/Mini you see dang it!!! It's very frustrating to not get waved at and is somewhat depressing not to get waves. :(
The Works/JCW: A MINI that has the John Cooper Works package also known as a JCW

S: the supercharged/turbocharged model MINI
ALL4: Is available on the Countryman model and the Paceman model. The ALL4 all-wheel-drive powertrain includes electro-hydraulic differential, positioned directly on the transmission's final drive, to vary the power distribution from front to rear. Under normal driving conditions, up to 50 percent of the engine's power goes to the rear wheels. Under “extreme” conditions ("extreme" being undefined) up to 100 percent heads to the back wheels. This is an option.
Mods: Modifications that have been done to the MINI
I will continue to add as I think of things. But this should at least get most of you through some of the slang that I use.
Tycoon the MINI
Tycoon is my second MINI, a 2013 MINI Cooper Countryman S ALL4. She is named after Abraham Lincoln for her Brilliant Copper color. During his administration Lincoln was nicknamed The Tycoon by his White House staff. It is believed to be one of the first uses in America of a Japanese term to described a military leader.
Sometimes rather than try and describe Tycoon's name to people I just say it's her name because she takes all my money.
Tycoon has a few mods. She has a VIP DP aftermarket exhaust. A WayMotorWorks upgraded 22mm strut bar. A Defenders of Speed cold air intake. A set of quad Hella black magic 500 lights on a VIP quad light bar. A CravenSpeed short shifter. And a few small things, like a CravenSpeed phone bracket and custom vinyl.
