Day 2

Day 2 - July 20, 2014 - Washington D.C. To Wayne, Illinois (Chicago)

Navigator Mama Kirk and I set out from La Sara's house in Arlington bright and early prepared for a long haul. Waze said our ETA was about 10 and a half hours with an arrival time at 5:38PM at my Aunts house in Wayne, Illinois a suburb of Chicago.  After a quick stop for a decaf starbuck (for me the preggo) we set out.

Bye La Sara and Washington D.C!!

We quickly found our way out of Washington D.C. (YAY! I hate this place even though I lived here for 5 years) Out to the countryside of Maryland and West Virginia until we came in to Pennsylvania to pick up the last 100 or so miles of the PA Turnpike.

                                                                   PA Welcomes You

Can I just say, that for being a toll road which you have to PAY to drive on, the Pennsylvania Turnpike is probably one of the worst toll roads I have ever seen. There were times I thought I was going to pull a MINI Goes All Around moment and crack an oil pan. Side note: if you aren't following MINI Goes All Around and these two amazing Germans, you really need to. They are taking their new F56 AROUND THE WORLD!! This makes us on MINI Takes the States look like big wusses!

After about 6 hours of driving I decided it was time to let Mama Kirk take a turn. I swear, if I have this hard of a time relinquishing control over my baby Tycoon, I don't know what I'm going to be like when this human baby, Windsor, arrives in December. I managed to give Mom 2 hours behind the wheel and got in a quick nap before it was time to take back over my rightful place. Needless to say, it may have been awhile since Mama Kirk has driven a stick, but she fell back in to it pretty quickly. Despite that one time when going through the EZ-Pass lane in Indiana where she forgot she had to downshift and almost stalled. I hope she isn't reading this...

A quick pit stop in Indiana

On a side note, Mama Kirk managed to grab a photo of the first "belly hit" from food. We had been munching on some great watermelon the whole way and apparently Winnie wanted some on her face.

So after about 10 and a half hours, Waze was right on, we arrived at Aunt Linda's house in Wayne, Illinois just in time to realize that I forgot about time changes! We actually got here at 4:38 not 5:38! Woohoo for heading West! So we hung out for a few hours, visited with Aunt Linda and Craig and then went to dinner with my ever so handsome cousin Andrew. Oh and I cheated on my chihuahua Robin. Those of you friends with me on Facebook have been privy to her antics. But how cute is this little guy!!

                                                                Cheating on Robin

So on tap for tomorrow is absolutely nothing! Unless you count a huge barbeque with all the cousins and their kids as nothing!
